We’ll try to pick you a winner as my son Gavin did with this Berry last fall at Milford Country Club. A tasty “RAY” Berry sound byte from earlier this year can be accessed at this link when we discussed the current and 1985 Patriots teams, Super Bowl matchup, Manning, Brady, Welker, Obama and more…a short clip of that interview previews the 2010 Belforti Bros NFL Picks of the Year followed by Wayne Allyn Root at this link: http://belforti.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=640734

Congrats to “2007 NFL MVP Tom Brady” Google that to find your favorite football blog prominantly displayed! Brady deserves to be highest paid player in history of league.

Week 1:
Green Bay Packers –3 at Philly Eagles – Kevin Kobb will face a tough test as starting QB vs tough D of Packers. Problems on offensive line of Eagles does not help. Pack might have enough to win it all this year.

Baltimore Ravens +2.5 at NY Jets – Everyone seems to love chances for upstart Jets but Ravens added new impact receivers in Anquan Boldin, Dante Stallworth and TJ Houshmandzadeh.

In 2009, achieved 1st place for second consecutive year in the All Good In The Hood league with fellow members of The International Golf Club in Bolton MA with a 14-2 regular season record. Commish Dan Forbes’ no playoff format is far better than Jon Murray’s playoff format where the number 1 seed (my Belfortuo team) lost to the number 8 seed in 1st round. Thirdly, my 8-5 fantasy team record earned a playoff berth in Jacques league which was at least a big improvement over my last place finish in 2008. Also came in 3rd in picks vs the spread.

Picking vs the spread: Came in 1st of 28 guys in Brad Letourneau’s Yahoo Pigskin Pick’Em Gridiron Gang.

Reality Football not nearly as successful however. Only 15-19 vs spread on our 2009 regular season top 2 picks of the week, 18-26 including a miserable playoff season and for last 127 Top 2 Picks: 72-55 = 56.7%. Worst of all, I lost a huge wager on my 2009 Pick of the Year, Patriots to win over 11.5 regular season wins. Although won a majority of my “over/under” futures on regular season wins, I weighed in way too heavily on my favorite team.

I should have listened to my own advice to not put too many eggs in one basket by always diversifying properly!! What about you? I’ll wager you 5 to 1 odds that you would have been better off financially diversifying your IRA brokerage account with Belforti Investments over past 12 years. Will you bet $200 to make $1000? Might be the best investment you ever make?! Fortunate to only have one losing calendar year for my clients as a whole since inception in 1999 (-13.7% in 2008 but still better than the -37.0% for S&P 500 index total return).

2010 Futures Predictions:
Super Bowl: Green Bay Packers vs Baltimore Ravens, which are coincidently our top two picks this week.

Pats over 9.5 regular season wins, Packers over 10 wins, Jets UNDER 9.5 wins, Cardinals UNDER 8 wins, Chiefs UNDER 6.5 wins, Redskins under 7.5 wins. Pats to win AFC East +130, Pats to win SB at 12 to 1, Pats to win AFC 7 to 1, Ravens to win division -125, Ravens to win AFC 7 to 1, Packers to win division +105, Packers to win NFC 5.5 to 1.

Suggestion for NFL Owners and Players to benefit EVERYONE! Go to an 18 game regular season to increase ticket sales and TV revenues, replacing 2 of the pre-season games. Fans MUCH happier to see two more regular season games and 2 less pre-season. To address significant player health concerns given the violent nature of the sport, require teams to activate each player a maximum of 16 regular season games. Adds new dimension to game while maintaining integrity of individual single season records achieved with 16 games (Brady’s 50 TD passes and Moss’s 23 TD Receptions for example). The two weeks off (plus bye week) for each player is essential to help them recover from injuries sustained during lengthened season. Increase roster sizes by 5 to 7 players per team to account for increase in de-activations per week. Additional TV revenue and gate receipts more than make up for increased roster sizes (players in slots 54 thru 60 at much lower salaries anyway). Implement rookie wage scale of some sort to reward performance of current NFL players instead of them having to share their piece of the pie with college graduates who are getting huge signing bonuses before ever stepping onto an NFL field.

Your thoughts on these suggestions and/or YOUR predictions for 2010?

[…] Unlike August 2007 when I predicted a possible 16-0 in the regular season, this year I predict a possible 19-0 season and a Super Bowl 46 victory over the defending champion Green Bay Packers, which was predicted one year ago at http://www.football.belforti.org/2010/09/10/2010-belforti-bros-pick-of-the-week-1-and-more/ […]
