In his spare time, Dan follows the National Football League closely. As a stress reliever from his daily responsibilities as the full time investment manager for his private clients, Dan and his brother Mark direct some of their energies to analysis of the most exciting spectator sport known to man. Here are Dan’s predictions for the coming season. I think the Patriots will have a great season based on their very weak schedule, but I don’t think 16-0 is realistic. I say 13-3.

I’ll agree, Lance, that 16-0 is next to impossible and have changed my prediction to 15-1 but given this offense with the addition of the electric Laurence Maroney, a healthy/hungry Corey Dillon and very deep OL, they’ll be no stopping the best QB in NFL history and gang from scoring at will. The defensive line is also best in league, and Belichick will make due with the thin linebacking unit and starless secondary (if Rodney not 100%). The ball may have to bounce the correct way a few times to pull off the perfect season, but this is the year it may happen given our extremely weak schedule and the lack of another complete powerhouse team to even challenge our Pats in the playoffs.

NFL Futures and Week 1 Picks of the Week:
Belforti Bros Picks of the Week/Year has a documented record of 69-41 (63%) vs. the spread in last 3 years.  I’m sure I’m quite wrong on several wagers (which is why I diversify my investments, 66% return on investment last yr, 47% in 2004, 62% 2003).

Below, probably, are 12 more data points to add to the mountain of evidence proving the theory that my selections add more value than a monkey throwing a dart at a wall.

Belforti Bros NFL Futures Picks of the Year
    1) Patriots to win over 10.5 games
    2) Browns to win less than 6.5
    3) Panthers to win 3.5 games more than Bills
    4) Cowboys to win 3.5 games more than Jets
    5) Patriots to win 1.5 games more than Redskins
    6) Dolphins to win 4 more games than 49ers
    7) Seahawks to win 4 more games than Raiders
    8) Patriots to win 4 more games than Packers
    9) Broncos to win 1.5 more games than Falcons
    10) Ravens to win 1.5 more games than Lions

Mark and I selected/wagered on the games listed below in Vegas months ago, some spreads have changed.

    To Win Super Bowl 41:
Patriots 9 to 1 Palms (bet now at http://www.bodog.com at 7 to 1, give my name as referral)
Steelers 16 to 1 Aladdin (bet now at http://www.betroyal.com at 13 to 1, ditto)
Cowboys 15 to 1 Aladdin (bet them to win NFC at 5 or 6 to 1 at betroyal or betus)
    Bengals 22 to 1 Palms
Chargers 35 to 1 Aladdin (can get 16 to 1 for AFC at betroyal)
Bucs 40 to 1 Aladdin (can get 45 to 1 now at http://www.betbadlands.com and give my name as referral)
Broncos 16 to 1 (can get 6 to 1 to win AFC at http://www.bodog.com )

Belforti Bros Top 2 Picks of the Week 1:
    11) New England Patriots -7 vs Buffalo Bills (should be 10 by kickoff, JP Losman sucks, 41-0 final)
    12) Seattle Seahawks -3.5 at Detroit Lions (already moved to 6, should be blowout as well)

    Other Picks Week 1:
Minnesota Vikings +6 at Washington Redskins (Skins horrid in preseason)
Chicago Bears -3 at Green Bay Packers (Favre should retire or be a backup)
Dallas Cowboys +3 at Jacksonville Jaguars (Jags over-rated)
Denver Broncos -3 at St Louis Rams (Broncos too strong for Rams D)
Pittsburgh Steelers -5 vs Miami (now pick’em since Big Ben out)

Belforti Bros Week 2: Top 2 Picks of the Week:
Dallas Cowboys -6 vs Washington Redskins (Bledsoe usually comes up big after bad day)
St Louis Rams -3 at San Francisco 49ers (49ers need more than 3 points from anyone)

    Other Picks:
New England Patriots -6 at NY Jets (Brady also never has 2 bad weeks in a row)
Cincinnati Bengals -10 vs Cleveland Browns (Browns are terrible)
NY Giants +3 at Philadelphia Eagles (Giants looked strong in loss vs Indy, Phili beat Texans)

  5. Belforti Bros

Belforti Bros Picks of the Week 3: (increased to 4 games since we went 14-2 vs spread last week):

Atlanta Falcons -3.5 vs New Orlean Saints
who have the Saints beat? Browns and Packers? C’Mon! Falcons have crunched playoff teams Panthers and Bucs with new option running game with Vick and Dunn leading the league.

Baltimore Ravens -6.5 at Cleveland Browns
Two teams heading in different directions. McNair can take that team to playoffs.

New England Patriots -6.5 vs Denver Broncos
Revenge is a dish best served homestyle.

Philadelphia Eagles -6 at San Fran 49ers
Must win for Eagles against satisfied 49ers

2006 Record vs Spread thru Week 2:
    Top Picks: 1-3
    Overall: 7-5

  6. Belforti Bros

Belforti Bros Picks of the Week 4:

Slow start again this year for Belforti Bros, although futures wagers look good.

    Top Picks:
Jacksonville Jaguars -3 at Washington Redskins:
Two teams heading in opoosite directions. Brunell hurt with cut on throwing elbow, Portis nursing shoulder dislocation. Jags looked impressive going 2-1 vs NFL’s best teams.
